June 07 Goodbye to Ian and Pat

Long-term students heading north.

Pat and Ian Graham, two of the longest standing members of the Welwyn Garden City class, are soon to leave. Following many years in the area they are about to return to the north-east, from where they both originally came.

The Welwyn Garden City group is the second oldest Tai Ji Quan Dao class. It was formed some 16 years ago and Pat and Ian have been an integral part of it for fourteen-and-a-half of those. When they first joined the Welwyn group their teacher was James Oon, together with Sifu, who were assisted by David Miller and Philippa Davidson.

In 2001, following the sad death of James, Sifu's son (James' nephew), Jonathan, took on the class, by which time Pat and Ian were amongst the most senior students. In this capacity they have been a bedrock of the class; providing fine examples to less experienced students, helping with instruction and always ensuring that new people felt welcomed and were drawn into the group.

Their friendliness and experience will be a huge loss to the group and we would all like to wish them a happy and successful move back to the north-east and we hope that they find a new class that can help them to continue their Tai Ji journey.
